Travel guide to visiting Mekaki Beach on Lombok Island, Indonesia.
Mekaki Beach is a long and wide white-sand beach located on the southern shores of Lombok. Although it takes a little bit to get here, Mekaki Beach (Pantai Mekaki) is well worth it for a day trip to one of Lombok’s best hidden gems.
After visiting this spot several times while exploring Sekotong, I’ve written this guide where I’ll give you a rundown of everything you need to know about this epic beach, including how to get here, what to expect, and some tips for making the most of your visit.
How to Get to Mekaki Beach
Mekaki Beach is located on the southern coast of Sekotong, closeby to the epic Orong Bukal and Pilling Beach cliff jumping location.
To get here, you can either book a south coast guided tour which also visits Nambung Beach and Semeti Hills, or rent a car or scooter and drive to this beach by yourself.
Directions:
From Sekotong Harbour, it's only a short 30-minute scooter ride over the mountains on a good, sealed road to reach Mekaki Beach. From the Pelangan Gili Gede Harbor on the main Sekotong road, turn left onto a road known as "Mekaki Road" and follow it all the way up the hill.
When you reach the top, you'll have amazing views of Mekaki Bay and far out to the Indian Ocean. From here, slowly glide down the hill until you reach the white sands of Mekaki Beach.
For those staying near the beaches of Kuta Lombok, it's a much longer ride to reach Mekaki Beach which takes up to 2 hours.
Guided Tour to Mekaki Beach
Mekaki Beach is a little bit off the regular Lombok tourist beats. To get here, I'd recommend staying in Sekotong. This way, you'll get to explore what is, in my opinion, one of the best adventure regions of Lombok.
However, another popular way to visit Mekaki Beach is to join this comprehensive south-coast Lombok day trip. This covers all the southern Lombok highlights.

What to Expect at Mekaki Beach Lombok
Mekaki Beach is completely undeveloped and a true coastal hidden gem! The sand stretches around the bay and ends at a jagged cliff line.
We spent hours exploring the beach, walking from one end to the other and swimming in the clear, turquoise water.
Just be warned that currents have been said to get fairly strong here. Make sure you're a confident swimmer before entering the water on days with big swell.
Mekaki Beach is also considered a solid surf beach. You can find a decent sandy break right off the shore where you pull up on your scooter.
There's also a rocky reef seemingly in the middle of the bay. Just further down from this point the waves become mostly shore-dumpers which smash onto the thick, deep-sinking sand. This is perfect for body surfing.
Driving the New Mountain Road near Mekaki
On the way back from the beach, I'd highly recommend taking the brand-new mountain road that loops all the way around the southern coast of Sekotong and back to the north.
After you reach the top of the hill, instead of continuing straight down back to Pelangan, you can veer right. This sealed road is one of the best-condition roads in Lombok and offers some incredible opportunities to stop and snap some viewpoint gems!
