40 Amazing Things to do in Krabi, Thailand

Olly Gaspar

By Olly Gaspar, full-time traveler for 6 years. I visit every place I write about & share real tips, photos, & advice from my trips.

Krabi, nestled on Thailand’s Andaman Coast, offers a more relaxed and scenic alternative to Phuket, with its stunning limestone cliffs, turquoise waters, and laid-back vibe.

From exploring hidden caves and emerald pools to relaxing on some of Thailand’s most beautiful, lesser-known beaches, there are so many fun and unique things to do in Krabi.

The region is home to over 200 islands, dramatic coastal scenery, and endless opportunities for island hopping, rock climbing, and kayaking. Many travelers come for the famous Railay Beach or the iconic Phi Phi Islands, but there are so many more experiences to uncover.

Let me show you 40+ fun things to do in Krabi that will make your visit unforgettable, whether it’s your first trip or you’re returning for another adventure.

1. Explore Ao Nang

While it can get busy compared to some of Krabi's quieter beaches, Ao Nang is a great base to explore the surrounding region. That said, there are many fun things to do in Ao Nang, including visiting its long sandy beach, bustling markets, and plenty of affordable accommodation options.

One of my favorite things about Ao Nang is its lively vibe in the evenings. The beach promenade fills up with vendors selling delicious street food, and there are plenty of places to grab a drink with a sunset view.

It's also the perfect spot for organizing day trips to nearby attractions like Railay Beach or the Phi Phi Islands, with numerous longtail boats ready to take you out on an adventure. Just be aware that Ao Nang can be quite touristy, so if you're looking for a more secluded experience, you might want to head further afield.

Tip: Ao Nang is the area's main tourist hub and one of the best places to stay in Krabi. I recommend staying here if you enjoy having easy access to amenities like restaurants, bars, and travel agencies that can arrange your excursions.

2. Phi Phi Islands Speedboat Tour

A speedboat tour to the Phi Phi Islands is one of the most popular attractions in Thailand, and for good reason. The scenery here is breathtaking, especially at Pileh Lagoon with its stunning emerald waters.

However, it's no secret that the Phi Phi Islands can get busy, and the crowds are unavoidable.

Despite that, I think it's still worth visiting— it's one of those once-in-a-lifetime experiences. I recommend taking a speedboat tour that leaves early in the morning to beat the crowds. The tour I joined also visited Monkey Beach, Viking Cave, Maya Bay, and Ko Phi Phi Don.

Just keep in mind that while staying overnight is an option, I prefer visiting as a day trip for the best experience.

3. Emerald Pool & Blue Pool at Thung Teao Forest Natural Park

The Emerald Pool and Blue Pool are two must-see attractions in Krabi. Located at Thung Teao Forest Natural Park and nestled within the lush rainforest, the Emerald Pool is a natural spring that shimmers in a striking green hue, perfect for a refreshing dip after a walk through the jungle.

The Blue Pool, located a bit further along the trail, is a crystal-clear pond with a brilliant blue color that almost seems unreal. Keep in mind, though, swimming isn’t allowed in the Blue Pool, but it's absolutely worth the walk just to see its vibrant beauty.

I recommend visiting early in the morning to avoid the crowds, especially during the high season. The entrance fee is around 200 THB, but the serene experience of exploring these natural gems makes it well worth the cost.

4. Climb the 1,260 Steps to Tiger Cave Temple

Tiger Cave Temple, or Wat Tham Sua, is one of Krabi’s most unique attractions, known for its challenging climb and incredible views. The temple sits atop a mountain, and getting there involves a steep ascent of 1,260 steps— but trust me, the effort is worth it.

Once you reach the summit, you'll be rewarded with panoramic views of the lush Krabi landscape, limestone cliffs, and even the Andaman Sea in the distance.

Along the way, you'll pass golden Buddha statues and shrines, and you will always spot a few curious monkeys. Just be prepared for the climb, as it can be quite hot, especially in the midday heat. You can drive here yourself from Ao Nang in about 30 minutes. But the tour I mentioned above to the pools also visits this temple at the end of the day.

5. Hong Islands Day Trip

A day trip to the Hong Islands is one of my favorite experiences in Krabi. The Hong Islands are a group of stunning islands known for their turquoise waters, white sandy beaches, and dramatic limestone formations. These are less busier Krabi island tours than the Phi Phi Islands trips.

The highlight of this trip is Hong Lagoon, where you can swim in crystal-clear waters surrounded by towering cliffs.

The best way to visit is by taking a speedboat or longtail boat tour, which usually includes stops for snorkeling at nearby reefs and time to relax on the pristine beaches. The entrance fee is around 300 THB but this is included if you book the early speedboat tour.

6. Visit Railay Beach

Railay Beach is a must-visit destination in Krabi, famous for its stunning limestone cliffs, rock climbing, perfect beaches, and super chill atmosphere. Accessible only by boat, Railay has a secluded island vibe despite being part of the mainland.

Railay actually has four beaches: West Railay, East Railay, Phra Nang Beach, and Tonsai Beach, each offering something unique. Phra Nang Beach is my personal favorite, with its iconic limestone formations and the beautiful Phra Nang Cave.

Railay Beach can get busy during the high season, but its beauty makes it well worth the visit. I recommend taking a longtail boat from Ao Nang early in the morning to beat the crowds. The round-trip boat fare is usually around 200-300 THB - read my guide to how to get to Railay Beach.

7. 4-Islands Day Trip

The 4-Islands Day Trip is a great way to explore some of Krabi's most beautiful and diverse spots all in one day. The tour takes you to Chicken Island, Poda Island, Tub Island, and Bamboo Island. Each island offers something different— from the unique rock formations of Chicken Island to the soft white sands of Poda Island, it's a great way to experience them all in a day!

My favorite stop on this tour is Tub Island, where you can walk across the sandbank that connects two small islands during low tide. The day usually includes plenty of opportunities for snorkeling in the crystal-clear waters and relaxing on picturesque beaches.

8. Krabi Night Market

No trip to Krabi is complete without visiting the Krabi Night Market. Held every weekend in Krabi Town, this bustling market is the perfect place to experience the local culture, taste authentic Thai street food, and shop for unique souvenirs.

You’ll find everything from handmade crafts to clothing, and the atmosphere is always lively, with street performers and live music on most nights I've visited.

You can take a public Songthaew (you see the destinations written on the side of the white vans) for 50 baht. It is basically a shared open truck from Ao Nang to Krabi Night Market. Otherwise, if you're staying in Ao Nang, check out the Ao Nang Night Market, a smaller but equally vibrant market, perfect for grabbing dinner or a late-night snack.

9. Dragon Crest Mountain Hike (Khao Ngon Nak)

If you're one of the most adventurous things to do in Krabi, check out the Dragon Crest Mountain Hike (Khao Ngon Nak)– one of the best hikes in the area. The trail is about 3.7 kilometers each way, and the climb is steep in some sections, taking around two to three hours to reach the summit.

The reward at the top is absolutely worth it— panoramic views of the surrounding jungle, limestone cliffs, and the Andaman Sea that are some of the best I've seen after exploring many trails in the area.

The trail is well-marked, and you’ll come across a few resting spots along the way. At the summit, there's even a rock that juts out, perfect for those iconic “on-top-of-the-world” photos.

10. Reflection Mirror Lake (Crystal Lake)

Krabi's Reflection Mirror Lake is located in Nong Thale, about 30 minutes north of Ao Nang. This small lake is known for its incredibly still waters that create a perfect mirror reflection of the surrounding jungle and limestone cliffs, making it one of my favorite spots for photography in Krabi. To get the best reflections, I recommend visiting early in the morning when the water is at its calmest.

The lake is quite secluded, and you won't find many tourists here. I recommend heading to the lake by renting a scooter or hiring a local guide, as there aren’t many signs pointing the way. There is no entrance fee, but it's good to bring some water and snacks since there are no amenities nearby.

11. Krabi Hot Springs

The Krabi Hot Springs are a must-visit if you're looking to unwind and soak in some natural relaxation deep in the jungle. Located in the Khlong Thom district, about 70 kilometers southeast of Krabi Town, these natural thermal springs are set in a lush jungle setting, making them an ideal retreat from the hustle and bustle.

The mineral-rich waters are believed to have healing properties, and it's easy to see why these hot springs are popular with both locals and tourists. You can enjoy soaking in the natural "bathtubs" that have formed over time, with water cascading gently into the pools from a natural waterfall.

Entrance to the hot springs costs around 200 THB, and it pairs perfectly with a visit to the nearby Emerald Pool, which is just a short drive away. You'll also visit these springs on the Emerald Pool day trip from Ao Nang.

12. Kayaking at Ao Thalane

Kayaking at Ao Thalane is a fantastic way to explore Krabi's natural beauty from a different perspective. Located about 45 minutes from Ao Nang or Krabi Town, Ao Thalane is known for its stunning mangrove forests and tranquil waterways, perfect for a beautiful kayak adventure.

Along the way, you’ll also have the chance to observe wildlife in the lagoon, including monkeys, birds, and even monitor lizards. It’s an incredible experience for nature lovers and anyone wanting to explore the quieter side of Krabi Province.

Many tours also include a visit to Bok Korani National Park, where you can paddle through peaceful waters surrounded by lush forest, adding even more variety to your kayaking trip.

13. Go Rock Climbing at Railay

Rock climbing at Railay Beach is one of the most iconic things to do in Krabi, famous for its towering limestone cliffs that attract climbers from all over the world.

With over 700 routes ranging from beginner to advanced, Railay offers something for everyone, set against breathtaking views of the Andaman Sea.

There are several climbing spots, including Phra Nang Beach, East Railay, and Tonsai Beach. Tonsai is known for its more challenging routes, while Phra Nang is great for beginners. Many climbing schools in the area offer courses with equipment rentals, making it accessible for first-timers.

For a unique thrill, try deep water soloing— this is one of the most unique places in the world to try it, and with the overhangs and clear water– it's perfect to safely try climbing without ropes, where the sea is your safety net.

14. Eat at Mama’s Kitchen

For some of the best Thai food in Ao Nang, head to Mama’s Kitchen. Located just a short walk past the Ao Nang Mosque, this unassuming spot has become a favorite for both locals and travelers alike. I found myself eating here nearly every night— honestly, it’s some of the best Thai food I’ve had anywhere in Thailand.

The prices are super reasonable, the staff is genuinely friendly, and the dishes — whether you’re craving spicy papaya salad, a comforting bowl of green curry, or classic fried rice are consistently amazing. If you're looking for authentic, delicious Thai food without the tourist prices, Mama's Kitchen is a must-visit during your time in Ao Nang.

15. Thai Cooking Class

Taking a Thai cooking class is one of the best ways to dive into the culture and flavors of Southern Thailand.

Many cooking schools in the area, including in Ao Nang, offer half-day classes that guide you through creating your favorite Thai dishes. You’ll start with a visit to the local market to pick up fresh ingredients, a great way to learn about the essential herbs and spices that make Thai cuisine so unique.

From there, you'll be taught step-by-step how to prepare dishes like pad thai, tom yum soup, or massaman curry, all under the guidance of an experienced local chef. The best part is, you get to enjoy the fruits of your labor at the end of the class!

16. Try Muay Thai Training

If you're looking to get active during your time in Krabi, Muay Thai training is an amazing way to immerse yourself in Thai culture and challenge yourself physically. I've trained at a few gyms around Krabi, including the popular Khunsuek Muay Thai, but my favorite is Bull Muay Thai for its authentic feel and proper Thai open-air gym setup.

At Bull Muay Thai, you’ll experience the traditional style of training, with passionate instructors who focus on technique and fitness. The open-air environment makes it feel like a truly authentic Thai experience, and the atmosphere is always motivating, whether you're a beginner or have some experience.

17. Watch a Fight at Krabi International Boxing Stadium

If you're in Krabi and looking for an exciting night out, Krabi International Boxing Stadium is the place to be. Watching a Muay Thai fight here is an electrifying experience, and it gives you a real taste of Thai culture. The stadium hosts fights multiple nights a week, featuring both local and international fighters.

The stadium itself has an authentic vibe, and the crowd is made up of both locals and tourists. The stadium is located right next to Bull Muay Thai, just 5 minutes from the beach at Ao Nang.

18. Hike the Ao Nang Monkey Trail

For a short but fun adventure, the Ao Nang Monkey Trail is a great way to explore the scenic side of Ao Nang while spotting some of the local wildlife. The trail starts at the southern end of Ao Nang Beach and leads over to the more secluded Pai Plong Beach, a secluded and chill beach.

The trail itself is relatively easy and takes about 15 minutes to complete, with sections of wooden steps and paths winding through the jungle. As the name suggests, you'll likely come across monkeys along the way, usually playful macaques that are curious about visitors. Just remember to keep your belongings close, as the monkeys are known for trying to snatch loose items!

19. Visit the Mountain Buddha Temple

The Phu Khao Phra Maha Bodhisattva Temple, also known as the Mountain Buddha Temple, is a hidden gem in Ao Nang that most travelers miss. Tucked away off a small, unmarked road, this peaceful temple is a short detour from the main route, and well worth the visit. After a climb up the steep steps, you'll be greeted with panoramic views of Ao Nang and the coastline below.

The temple is beautiful, with intricate designs and statues that give it a sense of authenticity. One of the best parts of visiting this spot is its quiet atmosphere— it's rarely crowded, and in my visits, I’ve never seen more than a couple of other travelers there at a time.

20. Explore the Beautiful Beaches of Krabi

If you're heading to Southern Thailand in search of the ultimate beach experience, Krabi is where you’ll find it all. Think towering limestone cliffs, hidden lagoons, and some of the most breathtaking beaches in Southeast Asia.

Among my top picks are Phra Nang Beach and Antosil Beach. Phra Nang Beach is well-known for its powdery sand, incredible limestone formations, and the famous cave shrine— ideal for a laid-back day with amazing views.

On the other hand, Tubkaek Beach is a fantastic choice if you're looking for some tranquility. About a 30-minute drive from Ao Nang, it boasts gorgeous views of the Hong Islands and tends to be much quieter.

21. Explore Khao Khanab Nam Mountains

The Khao Khanab Nam Mountains are one of Krabi’s most iconic landmarks, standing tall at the entrance of the Krabi River.

Once you arrive, you can hike up the mountains and explore the caves within, which are filled with fascinating stalactites and stalagmites. The caves also hold some historical intrigue, with ancient human skeletons found here, believed to be from people who took refuge during flooding.

22. Scuba Diving and Snorkeling

Scuba diving and snorkeling are fantastic ways to explore Krabi’s vibrant underwater world. The Andaman Sea is home to colorful coral reefs, schools of tropical fish, and even sea turtles. With clear waters and excellent visibility, Krabi is a great spot to go diving and snorkeling!

Top spots for snorkeling include Hong Island, Maya Bay, and Bamboo Island. For diving, check out the King Cruiser Wreck or coral gardens at Koh Haa. There are plenty of dive shops in Ao Nang and Railay offering guided tours and PADI certification courses as well.

23. Fire Dance Show on Ao Nang Beach

Watching a fire dance show on Ao Nang Beach is a great way to wind down a long day of exploring the fun things to do in Krabi.

These shows usually take place along the beachfront near the booking spot for the Railay longtail boats, with talented performers twirling fire poi and creating mesmerizing patterns against the night sky.

24. Visit Koh Lanta

Koh Lanta is a beautiful island offering stunning beaches and a laid-back vibe, perfect for a getaway from the busier parts of Krabi. Located about two hours from Krabi Town, it's easily accessible by ferry or speedboat, which you can book online easily on the 12Go website.

The island's Long Beach and Kantiang Bay are ideal for relaxing and enjoying sunsets, while the charming Old Town is great for sampling local seafood and exploring traditional wooden houses. Koh Lanta also makes a great base for diving and snorkeling trips to nearby Koh Rok and Koh Haa.

Actually, Koh Lanta is known as one of the best diving regions in Thailand!

25. Thale Waek ("Separated Sea")

Thale Waek, or the "Separated Sea," is one of Krabi’s most unique natural attractions. This phenomenon occurs during low tide, when a sandbar emerges and connects Chicken Island, Tub Island, and Mor Island, allowing you to walk between them.

The best time to visit Thale Waek is during low tide, and boat tours from Ao Nang or Railay can take you there. The crystal-clear waters around the sandbar are also perfect for snorkeling, with plenty of fish to see.

26. Spot Longtail Boats at the Son River

If you’re an early riser and love photography like me, heading to the Son River to spot the traditional longtail boats is fun way to spend a morning in Krabi.

The scene here in the morning is truly unique, with rows of longtail boats lining the river, their distinctive wooden hulls reflecting on the calm water.

The longtail boats are beautifully crafted and give a glimpse into the traditional lifestyle of the region. The Son River offers a peaceful and picturesque setting, perfect for anyone wanting to experience a more authentic side of Krabi.

27. River Rafting on the Songprak River

For a thrilling adventure in Krabi, river rafting on the Songprak River is an experience you won’t want to miss. Located about an hour from Ao Nang, the Songprak River offers an exciting ride through lush jungle scenery, with plenty of rapids to keep your adrenaline pumping.

It’s perfect for those who love a bit of adventure mixed with the natural beauty of Southern Thailand.

28. Experience Krabi's Bioluminescent Plankton

Krabi is one of the best places in the world to witness the magic of bioluminescent plankton. These tiny organisms emit a blue glow when disturbed, creating an unforgettable sight. You can see this natural wonder at Ao Nang, Railay, or on night boat tours around Koh Phi Phi.

The plankton glow due to a chemical reaction called bioluminescence, which occurs when they are agitated by waves or movement. For the best experience, visit on a moonless night or take a guided night kayaking tour to paddle through the glowing waters.

29. Traditional Thai Massage Spa Day

A traditional Thai massage is the perfect way to relax and unwind after days of exploring Krabi. Many local spas offer authentic Thai massage experiences, where skilled therapists use techniques like stretching and deep tissue work to relieve tension and improve flexibility.

If you know Thai massages, you'll know that this type of massage is more intense compared to others but they leave you feeling refreshed!

If you're visiting with family or your partner, consider check out one of the well-known day spas in Ao Nang or Krabi Town.

30. ATV Adventure in Ao Nam Mao

For an action-packed adventure, try the ATV Extreme experience at Ao Nam Mao. This is a fun activity in Krabi for families, no matter what the weather is doing. You'll go off-road through Krabi’s lush landscapes, and navigate through muddy trails, forests, and rugged terrain.

The ATV courses are suitable for both beginners and experienced riders, and you'll be given a safety briefing and all the gear you need before setting off.

31. Tubing at Klong Song Phraek

Located in Phang Nga province, just a short drive from Krabi, the Tubing activity at Klong Song Phraek is a fun way to cool off and enjoy Krabi's natural beauty by the water. Here, you can float down a refreshing river surrounded by lush jungle, with a gentle current carrying you along for a few hours.

The tubing course is suitable for all ages, and guides are on hand to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience. Many locals tube down this river and drink beers and whiskey on the way down, which is another way to enjoy it I guess!

32. Camping on Phi Phi Islands

Want a unique way to experience the stunning beauty of the Phi Phi islands after the day-trippers have left? Well, you can have your own slice of "The Beach" by choosing to camp at Phi Phi. You can set up camp along Long Beach or join an organized camping experience that provides tents and meals.

This is a good way to wake up early to enjoy the beaches in peace, explore the clear waters, or hike to viewpoints without the usual crowds.

33. Snorkeling at Poda Island

If you’re looking for an unforgettable snorkeling experience in Krabi, Poda Island is the place to be. Just a short longtail boat ride from Ao Nang, this island boasts crystal-clear waters and vibrant coral reefs teeming with marine life.

Beyond snorkeling, Poda Island’s white sandy beach is perfect for relaxing, and the striking limestone rock jutting out of the water adds an iconic touch to the scenery. To avoid the peak crowds and make the most of the calm, clear waters, I’d recommend heading out early in the morning (on one of the "early bird" boat trips).

34. Following Giants: Krabi Elephant Sanctuary

I’m usually not a fan of animal tourism, but Following Giants in Ao Nang is one of the few ethical elephant sanctuaries in Thailand. This sanctuary focuses on providing a safe and caring environment for rescued elephants– there’s no riding or performances here, just elephants living naturally, enjoying mud baths, and roaming freely.

Visiting the sanctuary offers an opportunity to learn about the elephants' stories and the challenges they face, while also supporting ethical tourism and conservation efforts. You can feed the elephants, walk alongside them, and watch as they splash around in the mud, all while knowing that the experience is designed to benefit the animals.

35. Windsurfing at Nopparat Thara Beach

If you’re craving a bit of adventure and want to make the most of Krabi’s stunning coastline, windsurfing at Nopparat Thara Beach is where it’s at. With calm waters and a steady breeze, this spot is ideal for giving it a try.

You’ll find a few local operators along the beach offering gear rentals and lessons, so it’s easy to jump right in.

36. Kayak from Ao Nang to Railay Bay

If you’re up for a bit of adventure, kayaking from Ao Nang to Railay Bay is one of the best things I've done in Krabi. I recommend starting by hiking the Monkey Trail to Pai Plong Beach, then renting a kayak from the resort there as I did.

The paddle to Railay only took about 30 minutes, and the way around the limestone cliffs is gorgeous!

Along the way, you'll glide past some hidden coves and little sea caves that are fun to explore.

37. Climb to the Viewpoint at Railay

For one of the most rewarding views in Krabi, climbing to the viewpoint at Railay East is a must-do.

The trailhead is located near the path that leads between Railay East and Phra Nang Beach, and although the climb is steep and requires some scrambling, it’s super fun and the views are unreal!

However let me warn you to be prepared for a bit of a challenge, as the climb involves ropes and can get muddy, especially after rain. There's also an awesome lagoon near the viewpoint worth checking out after too!

38. Spot the Dusky Leaf Monkeys at Railay

If you're wandering around Railay, keep your eyes peeled for dusky leaf monkeys. these little guys are the hidden gems of Railay’s wildlife scene. Unlike the cheeky macaques that often hang around, dusky leaf monkeys are more shy and reserved, with their adorable white eye rings making them look like they're wearing glasses.

You can usually spot them hanging out around Railay East or Phra Nang Beach, munching on leaves and chilling in the treetops in the early morning.

39. Sunset View from the Hilltop Ao Nang

If you’re looking for an incredible spot to watch the sunset and eat an incredible meal with a view, The Hilltop Ao Nang should be at the top of your list.

This restaurant sits just above Khun Suek Muay Thai gym, offering what I believe is the best view in Ao Nang. The steep road leading up is best tackled by motorbike, but if that’s not your thing, the restaurant offers a pickup truck shuttle from the base of the hill.

I’ve been here a few times for special occasions, including my mother’s birthday, where we splurged on the lobster and it was absolutely worth it.

40. Take a Private Longtail Boat Tour

If you're looking for a unique way to explore Krabi's coastline and islands, taking a private longtail boat tour is a great way to do it.

Longtail boats are traditional Thai vessels— they’re loud, a little slow, and not exactly luxurious, but that’s all part of their charm. These boats are an affordable and authentic alternative if you want a private island-hopping adventure without the crowds.

With a private longtail boat, you get to choose your own itinerary. Want to beat the crowds at Phi Phi Islands or spend extra time at a secluded beach? The flexibility of a private tour means you can go where you want, when you want. It’s an amazing way to see places like Hong Island, Chicken Island, and Railay on your own terms, making it one of the best ways to experience all the things to do along Krabi's coast.

Tips & Things to Know About Visiting Krabi

First time visiting Krabi? After visiting the area many times over the years, here are some things I've learned, and tips for making the most of your trip.

  • Transportation: Getting around Krabi is easiest with a scooter rental (250 -300 THB per day) especially if you want to explore beyond Ao Nang. Just make sure you’re comfortable riding in Thai traffic because it can be a bit chaotic. If not, opt for tuk-tuks or Songthaews, which are shared open-air trucks that are cheap and efficient.
  • Weather: Krabi can be very hot and humid, and the rainy season runs roughly from May to October. If you’re visiting during the monsoon, be prepared for short but heavy downpours, it's still a great time to visit: no crowds!
  • Currency: Most places in Krabi, especially smaller shops and street food stalls, accept only cash. ATMs are easy to find in Ao Nang and Krabi Town, but bring enough Thai Baht if you’re heading to more remote areas, especially the national parks where there are always entry fees in cash only.
  • Sunset Spots: Ao Nang Beach and Railay West are popular spots for sunsets, but for a quieter experience, try finding a spot at Nopparat Thara Beach or head to The Hilltop Ao Nang for incredible panoramic views.
  • Avoiding Crowds: Krabi’s main attractions can get very busy, especially during the peak season. Start your days early to beat the crowds. It's an easy trick that works anywhere on earth, no matter how busy it is!
