After making the journey from Phuket to Krabi several times, here are my recommended routes based on cost, convenience, & experience.

Thanks to Phuket’s convenient international airport, traveling from Phuket to Krabi is a popular route for those exploring Thailand’s stunning Andaman coast. And, thanks to many international connections, flying into Phuket is often much cheaper than flying directly into Krabi.

There are many overland transport options available between Krabi and Phuket, including direct ferries, speedboats, taxis, shared minivans, and more. This guide breaks down the 5 best ways to travel between these two destinations, helping you choose the option that best fits your itinerary and budget.

Krabi to Phuket Distance & Travel Time

There are two primary routes between Krabi and Phuket, either by road or by sea. While both regions have an airport, there are no direct flights, only connecting flights via Bangkok, which is not very efficient.

So, I recommend booking a boat or traveling by land. Here is an approximate distance overview.

  • By Land: Approximately 160 kilometers (100 miles) via road (3-5 hours depending on transport method)
  • By Sea: Roughly 55 kilometers (34 miles) across the Andaman Sea. (1.5 hours to 2.5 hours)

Traveling by ferry from Phuket to Krabi is my favorite option for those who appreciate scenic sea views and a relaxed journey. Departure points include Rassada Pier and Bang Rong Pier in Phuket, with arrival at Klong Jilad Pier, Nopparat Thara Pier, or Railay Beach in Krabi. Operators like Phi Phi Cruiser, Koh Yao Sun Smile, and Seatran Phuket (my favorite) offer regular services. Taking the local bus from Phuket to Krabi is the most budget-friendly option and is perfect for travelers looking to save money. Buses operated by companies like Minibus 1996 offer VIP minibus services with comfortable seating and air conditioning.

Departing from Phuket Bus Terminal 2, the journey takes about 3 hours and brings you directly to the Krabi Bus Terminal. With multiple departures throughout the day, it's a flexible choice that fits most schedules. I recommend this option for solo travelers or those on a tight budget who don't mind a shared ride and a few extra stops along the way.

Booking a private taxi or using a ride-hailing app like Grab is the easiest and most convenient way to travel from Phuket to Krabi. I've done this multiple times and it's great if you have some friends with you.

This option offers door-to-door service, picking you up directly from your hotel and dropping you off at your destination in Krabi. I usually book on Grab on the same day of departure but if you like to plan ahead, you can book with companies such as Andaman Taxis and NNS Luxury Limousine on 12Go (link below).

The journey typically takes between 2.5 to 3.5 hours, depending on traffic conditions. • Price: THB 400 - 700 per person
  • Duration: 2 to 4 hours
  • Departure Points: Phuket Bus Terminal 1
  • Availability: Multiple daily departures; year-round service

Shared van transfers are a popular choice among backpackers and solo travelers who want a balance between cost and convenience.

Priced between THB 400 to 700 per person, this option is faster than the local bus and more affordable than a private taxi. However, they don't allow much space for baggage. One time they made me pay for an extra seat for my camera bag which I was disappointed about.

However, I do recommend vans for those who don't mind sharing a ride and are looking for the absolute cheapest and most cost-effective way to get to Krabi from Phuket and Patong.
