Where to Stay in Dahab: Best Areas, Hotels, & Hostels

Olly Gaspar

By Olly Gaspar, full-time traveler for 6 years. I visit every place I write about & share real tips, photos, & advice from my trips.

Dahab, a former Bedouin fishing village on Egypt’s Red Sea coast, is one of the best places in the world for scuba diving, kite surfing, and laid-back beach vibes. Known worldwide for its Blue Hole, Dahab located just 90 kilometers (56 miles) north of Sharm El Sheikh, this coastal gem is easy to reach and offers a mix of adventure, affordable accommodation, and local charm.

First-time visitors often get stuck figuring out where to base themselves. Should you stay in the bustling Lighthouse Area for diving and nightlife, the quieter Mashraba for family-friendly stays, or venture to the remote Blue Lagoon for kite surfing? I’ve explored every corner of Dahab, and I’ll help you find the perfect spot—whether you’re after a social hostel, a comfortable mid-range hotel, or a luxe seaside retreat.

Dahab Area Overview: Where to Stay

Map showing the different areas the stay in dahab
The different areas to stay in Dahab

For first-timers, Dahab has five main areas I would recommend to consider: Assalah, Lighthouse Area, Mashraba, and Blue Lagoon. Each offers something unique:

  • Assalah: Known as the heart of Dahab. This area offers beachside cafes, affordable guesthouses, and stunning sunsets, making it ideal for solo travelers or couples.
  • Lighthouse Area: Perfect for diving enthusiasts and social travelers. With plenty of dive centers, cafes, and budget-friendly hostels. If you're here to dive, this is where you want to be.
  • Mashraba: A quieter, family-friendly spot with mid-range hotels and easy access to Dahab’s beaches. Great if you’re after a relaxing base close to the action but not right in it.
  • Laguna: For a resort-style escape where you can completely relax without leaving.
  • Blue Lagoon: This is a wildcard but it's such an awesome place and especially ideal for kite surfers and travelers seeking complete solitude. It’s remote and peaceful but requires a bit more effort to reach.

Read on for a list of my favorite hotels and hostels for various budgets across these areas of Dahab.

My Favorite Hotels in Dahab

While Dahab's tourism scene kicked off as a backpacker and wind-surfing town, I've noticed that the village has grown significantly over the years, with many great hotels popping up around the main Lighthouse and Mashraba areas.

The good news is that you can often find high-quality hotels at very affordable prices. If you're looking for a great hotel with a view of the Red Sea at a fraction of the cost you'd find in Sharm el Sheikh or for hotels in Hurghada, then Dahab is one of the best places for you to stay in Egypt.
