Where To Stay In Siargao: Best Areas, Hotels & Resorts

Olly Gaspar

By Olly Gaspar, full-time traveler for 6 years. I visit every place I write about & share real tips, photos, & advice from my trips.

Discover where to stay in Siargao, from popular surf ranches to hidden Pacifico retreats with ocean-view infinity pools. The options are endless!

While mostly known as the surfing capital of the Philippines, the incredible island of Siargao truly has so much more to offer like the Magpupungko Rock Pools & Sugba Lagoon.

If you’re looking for your next tropical island destination, complete with pristine palm-lined beaches, emerald-watered lagoons, epic sandbar islands, and some of the best surf breaks on earth– then look no further than Siargao!

Below I’ll give you an up-to-date rundown of the best areas to stay for your visit based on price, location, and my experience traveling the island.

One of my favorite stays on the island was the Sinag Hostel. This bang-for-buck option is a great place to meet other like-minded travelers and is close to the main General Luna.

The Best Areas to Stay in Siargao

After weeks of exploring Siargao and staying in various accommodations, here are my top areas for travelers based on price and location to epic tourist spots.

These areas include:

  • General Luna: 95% of visitors will pick to stay in General Luna, known for its surf breaks, restaurants, and nightlife. This is the main tourist hub on the island with great budget accommodation deals.
  • Malinao: Just a short distance south of General Luna you'll find this hidden gem. Known for its stunning beaches and luxury resorts, it's a great choice for those looking for a more upscale stay.
  • Santa Monica: Found on the northern tip of Siargao Island. If you choose Santa Monica you'll be closer to highlights like Taktak Waterfall, and Alegria Beach and be in an overall quieter location.
  • Pacifico: This northeastern hub in San Isidrois is famous for its waves and laid-back vibe. Staying near Pacifico, you'll swap bustling cafes for local eateries and pumping nightlife for quiet beach sunsets.

If you want to live like a local, you can also check out Del Carmen or Dapa. These are the two main port towns in Siargao offering a few budget hotels and guest houses to stay at. However, I don't recommend staying in either of these towns as the options above are better.

This place is every Instagram influencer's dream as the gardens, paintings, and furniture are perfect for capturing those holiday vibe snaps. The pool is immaculate and a great place for enjoying those happy hour cocktails.

Furthermore, this resort is a great pick for couples looking to relax but also love to adventure and enjoy the local beaches.

Siargao Island is big enough to explore in a single (long) day by motorbike. Therefore, most people tend to base themselves in General Luna and explore the island from here on day trips.

Siargao Island Villas is one of the best-reviewed luxury Siargao resorts. It's hidden by its lush surroundings in the central area of General Luna. The rooms are a beautiful villa-style and their rating for staff is one of the best in the area.

Surfing Temple Hotel Boutique

  • Area: General Luna
  • Best for: Bohemian vibes and secluded pool

The Surfing Temple is very popular due to its bohemian vibes. This hotel has new buildings as of 2020 and features a tropical swimming pool (every room has a pool view) with palm trees surrounding all corners.

The location is great in General Luna, just a 400 m walk to the beach. Additionally, each room is air-conditioned and includes a kettle and a private bathroom.

Looking for a surf hostel with a free continental breakfast? Soffta Surf Ranch is an awesome pick!

This one is only 200 m from the beach and features a banging restaurant on-site. The location is also very convenient being quite central. You'll find surf classes and board rentals here and the staff are more than happy to give tips on the best places to check out for surfing.

Sinag Hostel

  • Area: General Luna
  • Best for: Best Budget Hostel in General Luna

Located on the northern end of General Luna, Sinag Hostel is a great surf hostel that is only a 15-minute walk to Cloud 9. You'll be close to some of the best surf spots in the area, including, of course, the Cloud 9 (pro) and Jacking Horse (beginners).

The hostel has a great kitchen where you can cook your meals. It runs family dinners nightly and the price is great for the quality you get at this stay. Staying here is great for meeting others- I’m still in contact with several friends I made during my stay.

The vibe is laid back and much quieter than some of the other budget accommodations on the island.

Bonus: Pets are allowed at this Siargao hostel!

This is one of the most popular options when staying on Siargao, offering a large swimming pool, free WiFi, and complimentary continental breakfast. The rooms are spacious with large beds and equipped with a bathroom. Additionally, each room features a balcony with a sea or pool view.

This resort has everything to offer for those wanting to relax and unwind in peace.

Naked, Guyam & Daku islands are located 4 km from the property, and day tours to these can be organized through the resort. Guests can also hire surf and paddle boards as well as motorbikes. This can be handy for those wanting to adventure more of the island.

This is a great pick for those wanting to experience a true Siargao Island retreat out of the main tourist area.

Retreat siargao resort

Good to know! Due to the growing popularity of Siargao as an epic surfing destination, it has seen an increase of around 200,000 - 300,000 tourists visiting each year. Booking your accommodation early is recommended.

Ferra Resort Siargao

  • Area: Malinao Beach
  • Best for: Easy beach access and quiet location

If you're looking for a quiet, private surf location then booking a night at the Ferra Resort Siargao is a great option.

Located on Malinao Beach, just a 10-15 minute scooter ride from General Luna. This is far enough to make you feel like you're off in the jungle, but close enough if you want to head into the restaurants or bars.

This accommodation provider works on eco-friendly projects on the island and even has their own NGO for street dogs. You can rent a motorbike here cheaply and surf on your beach house doorstep.

A really unique hotel in General Luna is the Soultribe Beach Retreat Siargao. This awesome place offers glamping and island cabanas and is known for its great vibe! There are BBQ dinners twice a week and the retreat has a large pool overlooking the beach.

DaRosa Del Mar

  • Area: Santa Monica (Alegria Beach)
  • Best for: Access to Algeria Beach and on-site restaurant

Here's the first Siargao hotel that's not in the southern region near General Luna. In fact, Darosa Del Mar is located right at the tip of the island near Santa Monica. This bungalow-style resort is right next to Alegria Beach, which is a quiet and very beautiful spot on the island.

If you're worried about facilities, don't be. Darosa Del Mar has great reviews for its restaurant service and on-site motorbike rental. You can also rent kayaks and paddle boards directly from the beach shack.

Kaha Island Stay

  • Area: Santa Monica (Alegria Beach)
  • Best for: Beach views and those chasing a relaxed vibe

Kaha Island Stay is perfect for those looking to be away from the crowds of General Luna and are chasing those beach vibes! Located 13 minutes from the well-known Alegria Beach and located in a quiet area to relax after a big day of surfing or waterfall chasing!

With both dorm and private rooms available for an affordable price it's earned its spot on my list. It offers all the facilities necessary for a comfortable stay and its reviews boast its cleanliness which is always a plus.

A cool thing I found with Kaha Island is the fact you can spot fireflies from your window at night so make sure you keep an eye out.

If you're looking for something to do away from the beach I recommend checking out Taktak Falls a hidden gem in the Santa Monica region!

Masayay Homestay

  • Area: Santa Monica (Alegria Beach)
  • Best for: Those looking for steady WIFI in a quiet location

An epic choice if you need to answer emails or upload videos as Masayay Homestay offers a Starlink wifi connection which allows guests to stay online easily!

On my previous visit, I noticed that the Wifi connections on Siargao can be unreliable so having this connection would be epic if being online is a priority!

It offers a range of room choices and guests can utilize the shared kitchen. Alternatively, you can pay a little extra and eat with the family who runs the homestay which reviews suggest is a great option and the food is delicious!

  • Best for: luxury resort in Siargao with private beach

If an early morning gym session is on the cards then Trogon's Perch is the perfect place to sleep as it offers an on-site gym with lots of weight-lifting equipment.

This hotel is as close to paradise as it gets with sweeping views over the ocean from the outdoor infinity pool and bedrooms, it's easy to see why I have added it to the list.

A restaurant on site allows guests to relax without needing to leave as everything you need can be found in the hotel. It is located in a quiet area in Pacifico.

Bamboo Surf Beach

  • Area: Pacifico Beach
  • Best for: Surfers/ beginners looking for an alternative to Cloud 9

Bamboo Surf Beach is a great choice for those learning to surf or wanting to escape the crowds of Cloud 9 and General Luna. Located on a private beachfront it offers a range of rooms that are great for solo, couples, or small groups.

Meals can be enjoyed from the on-site restaurant and these can be altered for vegetarians/vegans.

I highly recommend surfing with Nick from the hotel to learn more or improve your surfing skills.

My Hotel Selection Process

  • Accommodation Criteria: I've selected accommodations based on value for money for each budget, area, current reviews, and unique amenities and features such as their location on the beach.
  • My Experience: I spent several weeks traveling Siargao and staying in different areas and hotels around the island. This made the selection process above much easier as I am familiar with these accommodations and can compare the reviews left by others.
  • Top Reviews: I have compared hundreds of accommodation listings and read countless reviews for each option across booking sites. Each recommendation has a high rating and I keep these up to date removing those that fail to keep positive reviews.
  • Local Insights: Traveling around Siargao I got personal recommendations from other travelers. I also got recommendations before visiting the island as friends of mine had traveled here before. They gave recommendations for different areas to visit and specific accommodations, many of which are featured in this list.
