The Fred Hollows Foundation

There are 43.3 million people around the world living with blindness. Almost 90% of these people live in developing countries. Blindness means that children can’t go to school, providers can’t work to support their families, and older people lose their independence. The good news is that nine out of ten people who are blind don’t need to be.

How long will the ride take?

We’ve given ourselves a deadline to reach Tromsø by the 1st of September. That’s roughly 7 weeks.

What will my donation go towards?

100% of your donation goes directly towards the Fred Hollows Foundation, a charity with the mission to help restore sight and stop preventable blindness. This charity is very transparent with their spending, which is typically allocated into training, treating issues that will cause avoidable blindness, research and technology, and advocacy. Why Fred Hollows?

With so many great charities out there, choosing the best fit for us was hard. We did our research and wanted to support a charity making a real impact in people’s lives. The Fred Hollows Foundation excels as one of the most impactful charities in terms of real-world change for every dollar donated.

How can $25 restore sight?

Eye diseases like cataract, trachoma and diabetic retinopathy lead to permanent blindness when often, the conditions are treatable or preventable. In many cases, $25 is enough money to fund a straightforward 20-minute operation that can restore sight or a dose of antibiotics can prevent blindness.
