Koh Tao might not be the first place you’d think of for a food guide, but after spending nearly a year here over multiple visits, I’ve eaten my way through the best (and not-so-great) spots on the island.
We Seek Travel isn’t your typical food blog, but if you’re looking for personal recommendations from someone who’s tried it all, you’re in the right place.s
With so many things to do on Koh Tao, from epic diving to scenic sunsets—whether you’re after budget-friendly local Thai dishes or a seafood feast with a view, here’s where you can take a break from exploring and enjoy some of the best eats the island has to offer.
1. Long Thai Food
- Location: Mae Haad
- Price: Very affordable (budget local food)
- Good for: Travelers seeking authentic, budget-friendly Thai food.
Long Thai Food is one of those hidden gems that only locals and long-term visitors know about. Located along the one-way street that follows up from Mae Haad Pier, this unassuming spot serves up some of the best traditional Thai dishes on the island.
I came here almost every evening for a quick, no-frills meal that’s heavy on flavor and light on the wallet. The dishes are simple but packed with authentic Thai spices, and the portions are generous. It’s perfect for anyone looking for an authentic, affordable taste of Koh Tao food without the tourist markup.
Must try: Pad Krapow Moo (Spicy Stir-Fried Pork with Basil) & Penang Curry + Papaya Salad (spicy)!

- Location: Sairee
- Price: Mid-range
- Good for: Meat lovers and those looking to try Thai-style roasted duck.
If you’re a fan of duck, 995 Duck on Sairee Beach Road is an absolute must-visit. This spot is famous for its succulent roasted duck, served with fragrant noodles and a rich, satay or spicy broth. It’s a small restaurant that focuses on doing one thing well—duck.
The portions are hearty you can also order the (extra) option, and the prices are reasonable for the quality you get. Perfect for a quick, delicious meal after a day of diving.

Where to Stay on Koh Tao
If you're wondering where to stay on Koh Tao Island and you want to be close to the main activities and beaches, pick a stay near Sairee Beach.
However, other great options include Mae Haad, or for a more secluded vibe, check out the southern beaches or even the east coast around Tanote Bay. Below are my top picks.
1. Jamahkiri Resort & Spa Luxury
A great bang-for-buck luxury dive resort at the beachfront of Shark Bay in a quiet and secluded location away from the hustle and bustle.
2. Phandara Pool Villas Mid-Range
A luxury villa option for those who want their own kitchen & pool. Located on the hill up to Wooden Rock Viewpoint.
3. Summer Guesthouse Budget
Located within walking distance of the dive shops and pub crawls on Sairee Beach, this is the top-budget hostel option with a great vibe.
